In our Dec. 22nd post I provided an overview of Windows Mobile 6.1 features. Today I thought I’d provide more information about the device naming scheme that Microsoft introduced after the release of Windows Mobile 6 for handheld devices running Windows. I know this change left many confused, so I thought a quick review would help.
The following chart explains the differences between each type of device and their current and former names:
| Windows Mobile Name | Touchscreen | Phone | Former Name |
| Windows Mobile Classic Device | YES | NO | Pocket PC |
| Windows Mobile Standard Device | NO | YES | Smartphone |
| Windows Mobile Professional Device | YES | YES | Pocket PC Phone Edition |
