Video Analytics and Task Management

Improves associate productivity and ensure shelves are properly stockedVideo analytics, also known as IVS (Intelligent Video Surveillance) is a technology used to analyze video for specific data.  Video analytics is a growing trend in the retail industry and is used to reduce shrink, increase security and improve customer service.  Video analytics is often used to send immediate alerts to associates about unusual or suspicious activity found in a video feed, but this solution can also be used to assign tasks via mobile computers.

Video cameras can be set to monitor shelf stock of specific items and video analytics can be used to identify out-of-stock items and alert associates.  Detailed task notifications are sent to a mobile device so the correct employee on duty can replenish the shelf.  Check back tomorrow to see a short video from Motorola Solutions that provides additional information about video analytics and task management solutions designed to keep shelves stocked and customers happy.

Motorola DS9208 2D Imager

Motorola Solutions 2010 Retail Holiday Study

Enhance the shopping experience and increase associate productivity with mobile technologyMotorola recently released their annual retail holiday study of 1500+ retailers and shoppers.  This research reveals some interesting information about the attitudes towards using in-store technology to increase customer satisfaction.  Some key findings include:

  • 43% of surveyed shoppers who received help from a retail associate armed with a handheld mobile computer reported that the device improved their shopping experience
  • 24% of surveyed shoppers said they would be very likely to take advantage of a sales associate using a handheld payment terminal to complete their purchase

The study also reported that nearly 28% of store visits ended with an average of $132 unspent due to abandoned purchases driven by deal-habituated behavior, out-of-stocks, limited store associate assistance and long check out processes.   All of these issues can be combated with mobile technology and DecisionPoint offers a broad range of retail solutions designed to meet many of the challenges you may face.  Click here to view the full Motorola Solutions annual holiday study.

Customer-Facing Applications Were a Hot Topic at NRF 2011
