In past posts we’ve provided information about the additional productivity gains realized by adding mobile printers to operations.  When selecting a mobile printer you need to make sure that it can withstand demanding conditions no matter where the job takes you.  Check out the video below to learn more about the Datamax O’Neil RL4 mobile printer that’s rugged design is ideal for mobile workforces and extreme environments such as warehouses.

Yesterday, DecisionPoint announced that they have successfully delivered an integrated mobile solution to Fairplex for use in parking and ticketing systems during the L.A. County Fair and other year-round events. DecisionPoint worked with Fairplex to upgrade their existing mobile computers to new tablet PCs that provide a larger display and more kiosk-like operation. The deployed units will be used for Fairplex’s parking services and POS ticketing systems. Equipped with bar code scanners to capture parking, ticket and coupon information, as well as magnetic stripe readers to process payment on the spot, the new tablet form-factor and outdoor viewable displays enable Fairplex to improve customer satisfaction while also increasing employee efficiency.

Mobile Solutions for ATM Repair

Posted by Erin Hodges On May - 24 - 2011

Ensure your ATM repair technicians have the parts they need, when they need them.Keeping ATMs running is essential to ensure that customers are happy and that owners continue to receive a steady stream of transaction fees.  The most common problems with ATMS include:

  • Faulty Dispenser
  • Worn out card reader
  • Broken keypad

In order to correct these problems as quickly as possible, field technicians must have access to the parts they need, when they need them.  Equipping field technicians with mobile computers enables them to track inventory on their trucks and make sure they don’t arrive at a repair site without what they need.  Mobile solutions also enable field workers to optimize routes to reduce transportation costs and record services performed and parts used in real-time.  With a MobileArc™ Field Service solution from DecisionPoint, mobile workforces have all of the tools they need to increase productivity and efficiency so that customers stay satisfied.

MaxiCode Symbology

Posted by Erin Hodges On May - 23 - 2011

Contact DecisionPoint to learn more about 2D imagers that can read MaxiCode. It’s time again to take a closer look at a bar code symbology.  MaxiCode is a 2D matrix bar code symbology used to encode address and specific customer data on shipping packages and is ideal for packages scanned on high-speed conveyors.  MaxiCode symbols encode two types of messages.  The first message usually encodes the postal code, country code and class of service.  The second message encodes the address data and can also encode other types of customer data as well.  MaxiCode has a bulls-eye finder pattern in the center and two levels of error correction so it can be read even when slightly damaged.  A  linear imager scanner is necessary to read a 2D symbol such as MaxiCode.

Contact DecisionPoint Systems to learn more about Grapevine and Intermec rugged devicesDecisionPoint is pleased to announce that Grapevine, their cloud-based Push-to-Talk software for Windows Mobile phones and Windows PCs has been certified on a variety of Intermec rugged devices.  Although Intermec doesn’t have a formal certification process, Intermec’s Cedar Rapids software engineering group recently completed successful testing of DecisionPoint’s Grapevine Push-To-Talk solution on several of their most popular mobile computers including the CS40, CN3, CN50 and CN70.

Grapevine delivers Push-to-Talk capability over the Internet and across disparate carrier and Wi-Fi networks.  It keeps workforces connected no matter how widely dispersed, enabling users to improve their communications while reducing costs.  Grapevine Push-to-Talk is a cloud-based, worry-free Software as a Service (SaaS) product.  There are no servers to set up and maintain, just improved communications.  Grapevine is ideal for immediate communications between dispatch and field workers, is highly scalable and supports communication among up to 5,000 individuals and 100 participants at once in a group.  Key features include high-quality voice with audio alerts plus a private and secure network with voice encryption and sub-second transmission.

Mobile Printing Considerations

Posted by Erin Hodges On May - 19 - 2011

Contact DecisionPoint Systems to learn more about the benefits of adding mobile printing to your operationsMobile printing has proven to have universal benefits across vastly different industries.  From field service to retail, mobile printing is enabling businesses to streamline operations and increase workforce productivity while reducing costs.  For businesses making the move to mobile printing, Zebra has a few tips.  Here are Zebra’s top 5 considerations when looking at adding printing to your operations:

  1. Ruggedness and Durability-mobile workforces need a printer that can withstand demanding conditions while in the field.  The device must be able to withstand dust, dirt, drops and fluctuating weather conditions.
  2. Size-a mobile printer should be just large enough for the application.  Full featured mobile label printers have many features, but they may be too large for a worker who just needs to print receipts in the field.
  3. Ease of Use-printers should be easy to load, LCD menus should be easy to read and they should be easy to operate.  If field workers struggle with the basic operation and changing out media takes too long, the efficiency gains realized by mobility are lost.
  4. Total Cost of Ownership-inexpensive printers can’t withstand the conditions of field mobility and will have to be replaced often.  Rugged printers may have a higher up-front cost, but they end up being less expensive over a 2-3 year period.
  5. Accessories-outfitting mobile workers with the proper clips, straps and vehicle mounts adds to the flexibility of mobile printing and improves efficiency.

Check out the DecisionPoint and Zebra mobile printing videos to learn more about all of the benefits of adding printing to your mobile operations.
