Griffin Takes Flight: DecisionPoint Technologies' 5th Sponsored SSD Pup

We're thrilled to introduce SSD Griffin, an eager new service puppy-in-training, from the Susquehanna Service Dogs family! Sponsored by Honeywell from our 3rd annual Chili Cookoff and named by winner GW Hall, Honeywell Sr. CBM, SSD Griffin has an exciting journey ahead as he trains to become a life-changing assistance dog to someone in need. SSD Griffin may just be starting out and we don’t know much about him yet, but he’s on the path to making a big difference.

SSD Griffin hails from our friends Susquehanna Service Dogs (SSD), a program of Keystone Human Services. Since 1993, SSD has been breeding, raising, training, and placing assistance dogs to help people live more independent lives. From Mobility Assistance Dogs to Psychiatric Service Dogs and everything in between, each dog is uniquely trained to meet the specific needs of their future partner.

Training begins the moment a puppy is born. At just nine weeks old, puppies like SSD Griffin are placed with volunteer puppy raisers who help them learn basic manners, social skills, and more than 20 foundational cues over the next 15–18 months. After that, they move on to Advanced Training with SSD’s expert staff, who match them with their partner and continue to train them in specialized tasks tailored to that person’s needs.
